Knight Inlet: two seasons by floatplane
Knight Inlet Lodge is a floatplane ride from Campbell River, where guests from around the world come to watch grizzlies fish for salmon. With a premium price and high-expectation international travellers, the imagery had to carry the whole promise of the trip. I made the flight twice, across two seasons: the first visit delivered prime grizzly encounters during the salmon run, the second broadened the library with different conditions and light.
The images, video and 360° views now lead the lodge's website and marketing, and the client reports measurable gains in bookings, traffic and engagement since launch.
Dive resorts and kayak lodges
God's Pocket Resort sits at the edge of one of the world's most biodiverse marine environments, a remote outpost on the north coast for serious scuba divers. The work was built around the two halves of the place: the above-water experience of the channels, forest and working dock from the air, and the rhythm of a dive day on video and in the tour.
Spirit of the West Adventures' lodge-based expeditions along Johnstone Strait were shot the same way: on the water, in the kayaks, at the lodges when the light was right. Aerials for scale, handheld for the human experience.
Caverhill: a remote fishing lodge with an international guest list
Caverhill Fishing Lodge is the kind of place anglers travel across the world to reach. Getting there was the first step; the work spanned a header film for their website, drone aerials of the lakes and waterways, a 360° virtual tour of the lodge and a photography library. The owner's verdict was that the video captured not just the facilities but the atmosphere, which is the whole point of shooting a place like this in person.
Remote shoots are planned differently: consolidated gear for the weight limit, backups for everything, and a shot list that can flex when the weather closes in for a day. The film, tour and stills for a lodge like this are usually captured in a single stay.

Questions about working in BC coast and remote lodges
How do you handle floatplane and boat weight limits?
I pack for the aircraft. Camera, drone, 360° rig, audio and a small lighting kit all fit within a typical floatplane or water-taxi allowance for one operator, and the shot list is planned so nothing depends on gear I could not bring. If a shoot needs a second crew member, I confirm the seat and weight with your charter operator before the booking.
What happens if the weather closes in?
Remote coast shoots are scheduled with a spare day where possible, and the shot list is ordered so the weather-dependent aerials go first when there is a window. The virtual tour and interiors can be captured in any weather, so a stay is never wasted. Nootka Marine Adventures' four tours were completed within tight weather windows across two seasons; that is normal for this coast.
Can you shoot wildlife as part of a lodge package?
Yes, within the same visit, and always at the distances the operator and regulations set. Grizzlies at Knight Inlet, orcas on Johnstone Strait and marine life at God's Pocket are all in the libraries I delivered, because the wildlife is what guests are booking. I will not disturb animals for a shot, and neither will a lodge that wants to keep its viewing permits.
